Problem Isolation and Probable Cause Analysis Dramatically Reduces MTTR and Business Disruptions with Aternity

Improving Service Levels and Lowering Costs

By addressing the WHY Use Case  through real-time, advanced analytics, Aternity dramatically reduces business disruptions and Mean-Time-To-Repair (MTTR).

Business Impact Analysis

Once a problem is detected, the Aternity Frontline Performance Intelligence (FPI) Platform analyzes the Business Impact. This includes, which applications and business activities are impacted, the characteristics of the impacted activities, the number of impacted users as a function of all users using the application, and finally the location of the impacted users.

Cause Analysis

Using all the metrics collected, the Aternity FPI Platform performs both a negative and positive correlation to identify the unique and common characteristics of the impacted group. In the case of the Screen Shot below, Exchange Server 002 is identified as being the cause of the problem. MTTR has now been reduced by about 90%!

Problem Lifecycle Management

Aternity monitors the problem throughout its lifecycle, continuously updating the status, both within the platform and via alerts to Ticketing and other systems. When the problem is resolved Aternity automatically closes the problem.

Application Profiler

Aternity’s Real-Time Application Profiler (RAP) analyzes any running application, out-of-the-box, and automatically breaks down  the resource consumption into 4 buckets – Local IO, Network IO, CPU and UI, helping IT organizations immediately identify down to the DLL level, offending components that are cause for slow application performance.

Influencing Attributes

Unlike performance spikes and outages, chronic performance problems do not deviate from what may be considered normal performance. In order to solve this type of challenge, you need to identify the primary factors that are contributing to these on-going performance issues . Aternity coins this ability “Identifying the Influencing Performance Factors”. The Screen Shot below displays that the Location of the user has almost double the impact on performance than the Target Server, and more than double the impact than the CPU speed.

Boot Profiling

One of the performance issues that confound end users from every sector is why do computers generally boot very fast and with time slow down – some times to a crawl. The Aternity Boot Profiler monitors the entire boot sequence for every user, aggregates, analyzes and correlates the metrics and identifies which users are having Boot problems, and more importantly which components of the Boot Process are the culprits for slow boot performance.
